Greetings,
My name is Satya, and 6 years ago, I left New York City to experience Central America. Though I enjoyed the big Apple’s blistering pace, I was drained by racist ideology hovering over US culture, and I wanted a different experience. I had a magical experience traveling around Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. While in Costa Rica, I volunteered at a majestic butterfly garden and consequently traded in my heels for sandals only to find that I was happier barefoot. I climbed mountains and rode my bike under the stars. I meditated more than I ever had in my entire life, and it was here in Costa Rica, where my spiritual journey uncontrollably blossomed. I learned a different way of living, a more holistic and organic way of seeing the world. I learned that our lives are really our own, and we can create any beauty we want. I love the energy of Costa Rica. It has become my home. When I was in the United States, I would always say to myself, “I’m leaving the country for a while at some point.” I had not realized that those thoughts would later manifest into my future.
It was also here in Costa Rica, where I continued the understanding that Black women and people are genuinely the most oppressed people worldwide. I was able to see it firsthand while living and traveling to so many different countries. I realized that there was this pattern of continually seeing black people repeat the same narrative and role worldwide — Which led me to recognize that systemic racism was more substantial than what we knew. I also came to the understanding that the entire world needed more of a deeper understanding of the subconscious and shadows. The most important part was that I not only allowed Costa Rica to change my entire life, but that it was now vital for me to share the experience of being outside of the United States, back in nature with other black women, healing with the spiritual practice of yoga & meditation, eating holistically, connecting with the elements and each other. It was vital to create a sanctuary where Black women could experience peace, tranquility, culture, wellness, and nature.
I created the first philosophy centering the wellness, liberation and healing of black women, after creating this philosophy I created Black Women Healing Retreats (formerly known as Women Of Color Healing Retreats ) which is the very first retreat and holistic wellness company invented for black women. Each of its co-sister retreats has its own unique aspects. The retreat’s goal is to bring women together for culture, wellness, and adventure in the gorgeous jungles of Costa Rica and Jamaica. During the retreats, the women practice yoga, experience enriching and educational workshops by expert facilitators, go hiking on waterfalls, swim in the bluest oceans, meditate amongst themselves and each other. The retreat is a sacred sanctuary that allows black women to get back to nature across the beautiful jungles of Costa Rica and Jamaica. It also a space to unwind, unlearn and disconnect from the psychological trauma of systemic racism. These retreats are custom designed for black women. If you are afraid of traveling alone, this is the perfect opportunity to begin your travel story because of the support you will receive from your traveling sisters and BWHR. These retreats are a sanctuary for women to understand the true essence and vitality of holistic wellness, liberation and healing, and we honor and welcome you!
Love,
Satya

Book Satya
I created the first philosophy centering the wellness, liberation and healing of black women.
Satya is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Black Women Healing Retreats (formerly known as Women of Color Healing Retreats) , the #1 retreat and wellness company for black women.
Satya is a CEO who delivers results and she thrives in entrepreneurship. Satya has built an empire through her work. Her mission and purpose is to deprogram the minds of black women from systemic indoctrination and to revitalize the birthright of freedom and community, Satya has inspired thousands of black women to travel outside of the United States to practice embarking on natural self-healing practices. She has also inspired black women to travel and move outside of the United States to create better lives for themselves. .
. After HBO Vice News created a segment highlighting Satya and BWHR vision and mission in Costa Rica, Satya and the Black Women Healing Retreats (formerly known as Women of Color Healing Retreats) instantly went viral all over the world putting wellness, liberation and healing for Black women on the global map. Satya and her awesome wellness sanctuary is a global sensation. BWHR have been featured in countless major publications around the world, including Essence, Buzzfeed, Afro Punk, AOL, Ebony and The Griot.
Satya has reached over 3 million people around the world. Satya has been on multiple radio stations, podcast, television, publications and she has spoken on panels due to the success of the retreats and her vital message for Black Americans. It's only fitting that Yoga Alliance + HBO refer to Satya as the “brain-child” of yoga, liberation and wellness, as she has dedicated her life to these beautiful ways, and continues to share them within her culture and the world.
Satya is also a certified yoga + meditation teacher, writer, published author, and an internationally known revolutionary.
Satya has created the first Free Kids of Color Wellness Program for children living in underserved neighborhoods in the tri-state area. Satya relishes in the ability to positively impact black women world-wide. In her day to day, Satya enjoys forest bathing, yoga & meditation, cooking plant-based dishes, floating in the ocean, traveling around the world, being a BOSS, and modeling truth, compassion and love everywhere she goes.
