It was a combination of my yoga practice and realizing that self-love meant being mindful of what I allowed into my body that encouraged me to go plant-based. Considering that the mistreatment of animals is very similar to the mistreatment of black folks, I wanted to live a life where I completely abstained from eating animal by products. The prison industrial complex, like the African Holocaust, position blacks as commodified, enslaved, and itemized just like the animals slaughtered and consumed as meals around the world. The combination of not participating in a system where animals were slaughtered, and living a completely healthy lifestyle simply by making better food choices, motivated me to pursue a 100 percent vegan life style.
Transitioning into a plant based life style has yielded so many benefits in my life. My plant based lifestyle has afforded me more clarity and creativity. It has given me insight to the importance of food practices with the understanding that food is meant to nourish and heal, rather than disease and zap the body of its energy. Being aware of everything I put inside of my body allows me to have a healthier connection with the environment and myself mentally, physically, and spiritually. I also know that by choosing to abstain from all animal by products detaches me from a system that poisons the human race everyday.
Transitioning into a vegan lifestyle is a personal evolution comprised of small steps taken to make big changes in your life and the world around you. The most important part about going plant based is to have fun and enjoy making the healthiest decision for your mind, body, and spirit.
