Mission Statement
Women of Color Healing Retreats was created out of the desire to connect women with nature and seeks to provide a space of learning, wellness, and nurturing that so often alludes black girls. In order to build sustainable communities that value the intersections of cultural identity, women of color must first rediscover who they are outside of a society that wishes to stunt organic spiritual growth and self-love. Women of Color Healing Retreats is a sacred sanctuary for all black women, as they fully honor the diversity of identity. It is a space for all bodies, all sexual orientations, all socioeconomic statuses, all political ideologies, and all levels of traditional or radical thought.

The retreat is a healing and wellness retreat in the jungles of Costa Rica dedicated to assisting black girls in natural healing practices. It is located outside of the United States so that black women can connect with nature, as nature is our original home. WCHR has created a space to get back to her. WCHR is also a space to unwind and disconnect from the psychological trauma of systemic racism. In a world that teaches us not to take care of ourselves, it is revolutionary and healing when we do.
From daily gentle yoga and meditation classes. To adventures like zip lining across the majestic jungle, to beautiful group time on the beaches of Costa Rica. WCHR also engages our guest in the adventure side of life. We provide the opportunity to go hiking and exploring throughout the jungles of Costa Rica. Our ultimate goal is to open the mind and heart, so WCHR provides political workshops so that black women can unlearn/liberate themselves.
The yoga classes will also center on navigating through the chakras. Our teachings will move you from the root to the crown by focusing on yoga, meditation, and journaling to open and nourish each of the body’s sacred centers. If you are not familiar with the importance of the chakras, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to learn.
When we think of healing, we usually think of healing from a relationship or a hurtful friendship, but healing has layers, and the deeper we go, we learn that in order to heal. You must heal the race and culture. The more you heal and understand the culture, the more you can heal those hurtful relationships, friendships and yourself, because it's all connected and starts with the history of the culture.
In your free time you can read a book in a hammock, meditate, take a walk on the beach.
Throughout our retreats most women come in as strangers and leave as friends. We deeply overstand how detrimental the United States can be for black women and people so we are dedicated to having black women and people reset, practice self care and recharge in a community sacred setting and environment built on the foundation of love.

Check out the Caribbean of Costa Rica here!
The South Caribbean is the most beautiful and magical place in Costa Rica and in the world. Caribe is lush with green--plants, beautiful flowers and trees so profound that they will leave a mark on you forever. It is surrounded and cut through water and jungle. In fact, it is where the jungle meets the sea! Costa Rica is home to about 6% of all the biodiversity in the world, so everyday you are able to see Howler Monkeys, sloths, wild horses, gorgeous tropical birds and so many other creatures!
The air is filled with the smells of delicious and flavorful Caribbean food. Coconuts fall from the trees, waiting to be devoured by you. While you're walking down the street, someone may say to you, “Pura Vida!” If something bad or good happens, someone may say “Pura Vida” to you. Pura Vida means “Pure Life” when translated directly, but it also means “Everything’s good.” Expressing that you are always exactly where you are supposed to be and everything is good is a way of expressing gratitude and eternal optimism. This is Paradise. This is Costa Rica.
Be there for your sisters even if they're strangers.- Jay Katelansky

Reviews From Past Participants
"The WOCHR was an incredible experience that will stay with me for a lifetime. I don't have opportunities to connect with other women of color due to the community I reside in, and left the retreat feeling part of a positive sisterhood. Each workshop allowed me to focus on myself and ways to heal or personal development. I wasn't aware I needed this retreat as much as I did and am very happy I took the leap and attended."
- Alexis Bromley
"We need this! My experience at the Women of Color Healing retreat was amazing! I learned a lot, met beautiful, inspiring women, and took an unforgettable journey towards healing that I will forever cherish. We (women of color) all need to heal. We are blessed beings. We are warriors. We are powerful. Thanks for recognizing the need."
- Brittany Jackson
"I’m so thankful for the experience I’ve had in Costa Rica. The group of women that I’ve had the pleasure to heal and be in joy with while here has been God sent. Thank you Women of Color Healing Retreats for cultivating a space for woc to be with themselves, to connect to the earth, and their ancestors."
- Elaine Perez
"This retreat saved my life, I can’t recommend it more highly, thank you enough."
- Dr. Rebecca Hall
"Each activity, workshop, exercise, etc., built upon our previous teachings truly aligned with the mission of helping women of color heal and reach our highest self. The love, sisterhood and sense of just being in a protected space for "us," is overwhelmingly essential to true breakthrough healing. I promise that this experience has forever changed my life!"
- Paige Fluker
"My time at the WOCHR was a highlight during my ongoing personal wellness journey. I learned so much about alternative ways of self-care, connected with other amazing Black women, and had space for much needed introspective work in a beautiful, tropical setting. Also, the focus on keeping a vegan diet and being exposed to eco-friendly and sustainable ways of living helped make the entire experience even more fantastic for those of us who are thinking about or in the process of making major lifestyle changes. Pura vida!"

"I feel that I was lead to this retreat for affirmation and direction from those who have traveled before me. I prepared myself mentally and physically with the expectation to find what I was seeking. I was surrounded by other WOC on this same journey, but it was ultimately up to me how to accept and use the tools and information given to me. This WOC retreat has definitely made me aware of the powers within me - love, beauty, acceptance, strength, peace, faith, hope, compassion, joy, sincerity, non judgmental, the power of self expression, the importance of "self care" and most of all - "pride in who I am". I now have the knowledge and affirmation that I control my destiny and the assurance that God is always, always with me. I highly recommend the WOCH retreat to all WOC and I will always remember my experiences. The entire staff and Satya in particular are making a positive influence in the lives of others and may they be blessed in their quest to make this a better world not just for WOC, but to all the people they touch.Peace and love to all my sisters."

"Women gathered in the name of sistahood to share, enlightened with given hearts and sacred souls. Laughing, weeping, hugging becoming one - unified spirit. Dancing in the shoes of our sisters, rising up, speaking up, ascending above the trees water sky...taking flight, soaring to great heights. Thank you Women of Color Healing Retreats."
