Mission Statement
Women of Color Healing Retreats was created out of the desire to connect women with nature and seeks to provide a space of learning, wellness, and nurturing that so often alludes black girls. In order to build sustainable communities that value the intersections of cultural identity, women of color must first rediscover who they are outside of a society that wishes to stunt organic spiritual growth and self-love. Women of Color Healing Retreats is a sacred sanctuary for all black women, as they fully honor the diversity of identity. It is a space for all bodies, all sexual orientations, all socioeconomic statuses, all political ideologies, and all levels of traditional or radical thought.

The retreat is a healing and wellness retreat in the jungles of Costa Rica dedicated to assisting black girls in natural healing practices. It is located outside of the United States so that black women can connect with nature, as nature is our original home. WCHR has created a space to get back to her. WCHR is also a space to unwind and disconnect from the psychological trauma of systemic racism. In a world that teaches us not to take care of ourselves, it is revolutionary and healing when we do.
From daily gentle yoga and meditation classes. To adventures like zip lining across the majestic jungle, to beautiful group time on the beaches of Costa Rica. WCHR also engages our guest in the adventure side of life. We provide the opportunity to go hiking and exploring throughout the jungles of Costa Rica. Our ultimate goal is to open the mind and heart, so WCHR provides group discussions on wellness/self care, spirituality and systemic racism so that black women can unlearn/liberate themselves.
Most of our participants attend the retreat solo and they meet new people at the retreat, sometimes the women attend with their friends or family while also meeting new people at the retreat. Check out this video from our April 2019 Women Of Color Healing Retreat of a mom and her daughters who attended the retreat together.
The retreat will also center on navigating through the chakras. Our teachings will move you from the root to the crown by focusing on food , yoga , meditation, to open and nourish each of the body’s sacred centers. If you are not familiar with the importance of the chakras and elements, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to learn.
When we think of healing, we usually think of healing from a relationship or a hurtful friendship, but healing has layers, and the deeper we go, we learn that in order to heal. You must heal the race and culture. The more you heal and understand the culture, the more you can heal those hurtful relationships, friendships and yourself, because it's all connected and starts with the culture.
Healing & wellness is prioritizing yourself first. It is listening to your mind, body and spirit. It’s taking care of yourself on a daily basis. Self-love is vital for black girls because too often taught are black girls taught to put everyone else’s needs before their own. As women, we tend to be nurturers and supporters by nature, but this nurturing and supporting of everyone else's welfare, can leave us feeling burnt out. The retreat is a chance to unwind from the burnout that you may experience from everyday life. Sometimes we just need a reset button, without distractions just to connect back with ourselves in order to restore and rejuvenate.
Be there for your sisters, even if they're strangers.

This retreat is for those who want to bring more positivity and self-love into their lives.
Women of Color Healing Retreat is a vegan retreat, all meals are cooked with quality ingredients. Animal by products are not allowed within the retreat space , no exceptions. We provide delicious plant-based meals by our private vegan chef. As we abstain from animal by products in the kitchen, we also abstain from alcohol throughout the retreat. This abstinence will be in effect whether guests are in the retreat, or are enjoying some well needed personal time. When practicing self-love and healing the vessel should always be clean. Alcohol and wellness don't mix, in fact it is the complete opposite of self-care. Normally in black culture it is traditional to involve alcohol in everything but we have shifted the culture for the positive by providing black women an opportunity to be free of things that do not serve them during their journey with us. Our goal for the alcohol cleanse, is to keep the vibrations high so that you may have a meditative and restorative experience.
From our spiritual yoga classes, to our medicinal plant tour with a local medicine man, everything that you experience at WCHR can be implemented into your everyday life. Whether it be the classroom or the boardroom, we strive to provide black girls with a piece of the jungle’s magic so that you may have it with you anywhere you go.
A holistic lifestyle is one that aims to achieve an inner balance of mind, body and spirit, using natural healing methods such as yoga, meditation, plant-based living and self-reflection. Holistic healing is possessing enough self awareness to correct the behavior of over-functioning for others while under functioning for yourself.
