Satya X is the creator of WOCHR. She believes in manifesting our desired lives. Satya X is a healer, a black nationalist, yogi, organizer, fruitarian/vegan, business woman, spiritual woman, teacher + eternal student. She believes that it is our duty to uplift black communities. She feels closest to the Earth in her work with yoga, meditation, spiritual + political ancestral healing and self-care.
Satya X creates spaces for women of color through her work and it is her life’s purpose to heal black communities. After HBO did a segment on the WOCHR in Costa Rica, Satya X and the Women of Color Healing Retreat went viral making this black wellness space and Satya X globally known. Satya X and the WOCHR have been featured in major publications around the world, some of them have been Essence, Afro Punk, AOL, The Griot. When it comes to yoga and black wellness, Yoga Alliance + HBO refer to her as the “brain-child”.
Satya X believes in the ways that the power of Pan- Africanist politics combined with Black Spirituality can help a black human life blossom. As a result, she is dedicated to having women love themselves unconditionally through the practice of wellness and yoga. Although Satya X is aware that gender is a social construct, her ultimate goal is to cultivate a safe space for women and children of color to thrive on their individual life and spiritual journey.
Satya X understands that before all of us become who we are, a childhood is our launching place. She is of the belief that a fun, grounded, and safe childhood leads to healthy, and loving adults. In the spirit of that belief, she has also created the first Free Kids of Color Yoga & Arts program for children living in underserved neighborhoods in the tri-state area. Herself a former New York City kid, Satya X relishes in the ability to impact her community as she intimately understands the hardships that children in black communities face. In her day to day, Satya X enjoys yoga philosophy, photography, wellness, reading, floating in the ocean, and discussing black liberation.
